"Approaches to the Occident: Western Perspectives on Buddhism"

Call for Papers

"Approaches to the Occident: Western Perspectives on Buddhism", Interdisciplinary Workshop, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Munich, (Germany), 27-29 January 2011

The interdisciplinary workshop aims to establish a network of young researchers in the field of Buddhist Studies and is also intended to be a forum of exchange for the various subject-specific methodological approaches to Buddhism.

The different cultural sciences and the comparative Study of Religion are all involved in the definition, description, production and distribution of Buddhism in the East and the West. As a result ongoing "Approaches to the Occident" are reflected in various Western Perspectives on the topic. It is said, "there is no view from nowhere": For the workshop, awareness of the limited objectivity of scientific research might serve as a connecting tool for constructive interdisciplinary discussion.

Eight selected Ph.D. students will be given the opportunity to present their current projects and to put them up for discussion within this special focus. The event will be supported by the lectures and participation of Professor Georges Dreyfus and Professor

Donald S. Lopez. Your contributions will be selected following a call for papers.
