The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track
assistant professor position, appointment beginning August 1, 2021.

Position is subject to final budgetary approval. Teaching
responsibilities include both graduate and undergraduate courses;
normally 5 classes per academic year, with release time available for
administrative or higher than normal service or mentoring
responsibilities. Summer and winter teaching may be undertaken for
additional pay. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain
an active research and publication program and to participate in
faculty self-governance.

Situated in Kentucky’s largest and most diverse city, UofL is both a
Carnegie Doctoral-High (“Research 1”) University, and a Carnegie
Community Engaged University. The Cardinal Anti-Racism Agenda frames
the University’s dedication to breaking down racial disparities and
injustice, as does the Department’s longstanding commitment to the
proposition that Black Lives Matter. UofL is home to one of the
oldest and largest Pan African Studies departments in the country,
and the Philosophy Department’s courses in African Philosophy and
African American Philosophy are cross-listed in that department.
Thus, candidates should have demonstrated experience working with
diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members, and a
commitment to continue such engagement in ways that continually build
inclusion and belonging for all. We especially encourage women,
minorities, and persons with disabilities to apply.

All requirements for the Ph.D. in philosophy must be completed by
June 30, 2021.

with and/or plans for promoting diversity and inclusion. Further,
candidates should arrange to have three letters of recommendation,
one of which addresses teaching, sent separately to the same email
address.

Review of applications will begin on February 22nd, 2021.

Short-listed candidates will be contacted in March for the purpose of
setting up video-conference interviews. Due to the coronavirus
pandemic, the Department may be required to conduct the search
remotely; but in any case, candidates who are not comfortable
traveling during the pandemic may choose to go through the process
remotely, and will be considered without prejudice either way.
